Thursday Odds and Ends

Coney Island early spring.  The parachute drop in the distance.

My dad, his twin, and me a long, long time ago.

My third great uncle, Charles Hazel.  He was a magician.

If you are interested in your mitochondrial DNA this is the book for you.  Our mitochondrial DNA is passed down remarkably unchanged over the centuries from mother to daughter.  Brian Sykes brings 7 individual women, who lived between 10,000 years ago and 45,000 years ago between the Middle East and various areas of Europe, to life.  These women are the direct ancestors of 95% of all European people alive today. Yes, exactly seven women.

Family picture.  From left to right, cousin who I just met, granddaughter, son, daughter, granddaughter, and myself in front.

My granddaughter and her children.

Susie and Tiny at Christmas.  This picture has to be at least 60 years old.

A few years back.  Can you believe the price of these cherries?

Just a picture of the clouds.

  1. Wonderful and beautiful family photos Mary. You look so tiny compared to those around you. Lovely and sweet photo of your granddaughter and her precious children.
I also enjoyed the odds and ends photos, too...especially the clouds.

    1. I wasn't always this short. Lost 2 inches as I aged...and my feet grew a size and a half bigger. Go figure.

    1. Needless to say, much as I wanted the cherries, I didn't buy them. Wonder if anyone ever did.

  6. This is a lovely collection (and I am very envious of the older photos you have). Cherries here are OFTEN that expensive. And more.

  7. I love the old black and white photos...they hold so much more emotion than our colourful photos of today.

    1. They do, don't they. We've come so far, yet we find ourselves lacking.

  8. I had my DNA done with ancestry and found it quite interesting. And had both of my sons done and what found interesting they both have about one percent or less of African in them one comes from North Africa and my other son has one percent or less of Benin and or Togo. I want to get my husband DNA done. Coffee is on

    1. I had my mitochondrial and DNA done by Ancestry. Then last year I had it done by Helix for National Geographic. They were both the same, but Helix gave me more in depth info.
