Monday This and That

Good Monday morning everyone.  The cold air has returned, and I am still debating whether or not I should go to class.  My back has been acting up again, and this would be a two hour bus ride, 8 block walk, and then dance and yoga.  Sitting isn't easy right now so I don't know how I would manage sitting for the meditation on a hard chair.  Sent for a special pillow which should arrive this week.

Had a nice weekend.  Spent a lot of time on Saturday in the kitchen.  Made a pot of chili and some sausages for hubby.  Put them both in the freezer for later use.  For myself I made two soups.  Both were so simple and quick to make.

Black bean soup--one large 1 lb 13 oz can of black beans, carrots, celery, corn, onions, peppers, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, tomato sauce, and sodium free chicken broth

My version of Tuscan Bean Soup.--one large 1 lb 13 oz can of cannelli beans, carrots, celery, 1 10 oz can of diced tomatoes with green chili, onions, sweet pepper, rosemary, garlic, chopped kale (frozen), red pepper flakes, sodium free chicken broth, and black pepper. I felt like adding a bacon taste but since I don't eat bacon due to sodium I added a few bacon bits.

Went to church yesterday morning and then picked up a few fruits on the way home.  Heard the weather was not going to be so good Monday and Tuesday, and I wanted to have plenty of healthy snacks on hand.

Tinnitis.  Don't know if I mentioned it before, but for the past three weeks I've been suffering with it.  It's not so bad in the day because I'm either busy or watching television and the ringing is drowned out.  But at night when I go to bed?  It's so annoying.  I've been cleaning my ears, using a homeopathic formula, and taking an Aleve pm to help me sleep, but it's still there.  Anybody else suffer from this?  They say there is no cure.  That sometimes it might go away on its own.  I pray it does.

Have a wonderful day.

  1. I occasionally get a buzzing in my ears. I guess I've gotten used to it because I have to think about it before I notice it. Hope yours goes away.

    1. Mine is similar to yours. During the day I am fine. It's a night I notice it most. But mine is always there.

    2. All of this delicious food and I can't even steal a bite...not fair Mary :)
I can't blame you for not wanting to go to class. You know your pain level and also what you can and can't tolerate when you are hurting.
I have had the buzzing sound in my ears for eons. It always seems to be worse in the winter months. I believe it is because of the dry air and a flare-up my sinuses. I agree that at night it seems worse but I believe that is because the house becomes so quiet that any noise seems louder. Sometimes quiet music in the background helps me.

      Hugs~A

I might opt to stay home, but that's me because I'm a wimp anymore when it comes to cold lol.

  4. I made Chilli last week. We ate half and froze the rest. One of the nicer things about winter is eating Chilli and soups

    1. It's off and on. Now in the afternoon it's feeling pretty good. I probably could have gone, but sitting on that hard bus seat for two hours is a problem. That's why I ordered the cushion.

I do hope your Tinnitus improves …
I checked out what the UK NHS site said about it - and it gives quite a lot of information you may find useful.

Tinnitus is the name for hearing noises that aren't caused by an outside source. It's not usually a sign of any serious conditions and generally improves over time. There are treatments that can help.

    (see site - link below)

    Causes of tinnitus
It's not always clear what causes tinnitus, but it's often linked with:
    some form of hearing loss
    Ménière's disease
conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders or multiple sclerosis
    anxiety or depression
taking certain medication – tinnitus can be a side effect of some chemotherapy medicines, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and aspirin

But lots more to read here

    Hope this may help

    All the best Jan

  7. Your soups look delicious! I love making soup in winter. I made a squash soup and a chicken soup last week. I'd think twice about a 2 hr bus ride too. I don't get down on a hard floor any more for anything - so that lets yoga out for me.

A cushion is a good idea for that chair. I hear we have another snow storm coming. Not impressed! Even though I love that the light is brighter and days longer in February, I'll be glad when the cold is gone. As I age, I can't take it either.

My husband had tinnitis. It was caused by some nerve damage and he took Ativan. Seemed to calm down the noise. I also have ringing in my ears, more if I'm stressed or sick (had a bad cold last week). But it's not too bad. I mostly ignore it.

I hope you find a treatment that works - or it just goes away! It can happen.
    Big hugs.

    1. Thanks Wendy. Going to talk to my doctor about it. I do have hope that it will go away. February is always the worst month for me. Not only does it signal the coldest part of winter, but it's gray and dreary.
