A Preview of My New Apartment

Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts. --Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.--

Hubby went over to the new place yesterday and took some pictures for me.  It actually looks better in person than it does in pictures.  The above is the living room showing the entrance into the bedroom.

The above is a shot of the bedroom.  The walls are actually a cream color.  Not sure yet if I am going to repaint or leave as is since it has already been done.  Right now I am still trying to think of a color scheme for curtains, etc.

The bedroom leading out to the two walk in closets and the living room.

One of my challenges, the kitchen with little counter space.  The other side is completely bare so I am thinking of a long table for microwave, coffee pot, and extra counter space. The cabinets are all brand new, as well as the stove which still has the tape on it.  Notice the square below the window.  That is the original old stove of the house.  It opened up and was filled with coal, and the lady of the house cooked over it.

Another view of the kitchen...sink and small cupboard.

Brand new refrigerator and view of entrance way.

Hubby got the bathroom sideways, but it is small with a big old-fashioned oval tub with legs.   The shower knobs are actually in the center of the tub and not on the ends.  I am eagerly awaiting a long, leisurely bubble bath with scented candles.

I can't wait to show you all the finished product.

  2. Thanks for the apartment tour. It all looks fresh and awaiting your decorating charms. As for the small kitchen, think vertically. Racks and shelves, perhaps hanging pot rack? Hanging baskets for various storage options. I think having a blank slate to start over with is ideal for decorating. And you can have a beautiful first Yule there with your tree plugged in! Looking forward to seeing more!! How fun, Mary, I am excited for you!

  3. Wonderful! Both the place, and the photos. Many thanks to your husband, for taking them.

I just love to see spaces and think floor plans, in my head. It's fun. And for you, it's practical. You know your furniture and you know how you will want it to sit. :-)

Oh this looks like so much fun for you Mary! Oh I know, the moving part will not be fun. But the planning and the doing and the newness of it all! F-U-N!!!!

    Gentle hugs,
I don't think a really good pie can be made without a dozen or so children peeking over your shoulder as you stoop to look in at it every little while. ~John Gould

  4. If you get some of the wire mesh shelving for the other side of the kitchen, you can really expand your storage options too, even putting a long board between two units to make counter space. A smaller shelf under that window would give you space for your herb garden! So many possibilities! What fun to plan!

  6. YAY!!! Oh it's fantastic!!! I love it. Radiators....I love them too. Such charm. I'm so happy for you. Do you have an Ikea nearby? They have some really nice solutions for the kitchen. We had the same situation and found a freestanding counter-top with shelves and a free standing island.

I cannot wait to see more pics!!!

  8. Wow Mary! It looks great! When we bought our home which was freshly painted with "neutral" colors I was going to repaint then I realized if the walls are neutral I could do awesome stuff like get orange couches, red rugs and black curtains : )

    Enjoy!!!!!

  10. My favourite part of moving is the decorating. When I look at your apt. I see endless possibilities.

I love the hardwood floors they look like they have just been sanded and polished.

Cream is a great colour it is extremely rich and it is completely neutral, goes with everything.

I think it takes living there a while to select a signature colour. In the meantime, everything is freshly painted and new appliances to boot.

    Oh I love it.

I also love bubble baths and scented candles. Nothing soothes the body and spirit like a bath.
Just takes all those aches out of your muscles and joints.

I am so happy for you and I cannot wait to hear all about your brand new start in life.

Thanks for sharing the pictures with us Mary.

Wishing you much love and happiness. A new year and a brand new change of life for your both.

    hugs and love Sharon

  11. Mary - it's really lovely! I love the light coloured walls and the floors are gorgeous. The kitchen can totally be added to like you said, with a little cabinet and a shelf to store your appliances.

So many congratulations to you - enjoy those windows!

I think too, you will enjoy the cream colored walls...my walls are a neutral color and I am able to change up color schemes whenever I want.
