The Worst of it is Over; Now it is Time to Rebuild

If things are tough, remember that every flower had to go through a whole lot
of dirt to get there. So do not grieve about a bitter experience. The present
is slipping by while you are regretting the past and worrying about the future.
Regret will not prevent tomorrow’s sorrows; it will only rob today of its strength.

Barbara Johnson

We dodged a bullet last night.  At about 8 pm we heard an explosion and our power began to flicker.  My son and I looked at each other with that 'well, this is it' look, but we never lost power.  My son and I remained glued to the television for most of the night, and when I did go to bed, sleep was a long time coming.  My emotions are running high this morning. The tears of sadness flow.  My city has been decimated.  Lives have been lost, homes destroyed.  The subways may be down for weeks.

I am blessed.  I have my power. I have food to eat.  I have my family. I've not been able to reach my co-worker in Staten Island, and I understand they were hit very hard.  I pray for the safety of her, her husband, and their little doggy.  Please let them be safe.

We knew this was coming.  They have been talking about it for years. Our public officials handled it to the best of our ability. I commend them and those who are now working on the front lines. Now the rebuilding begins.

  6. THANK YOU for letting us know!!!!

Wonderful that you still have power!

And I am glad that you are happy with the way your city handled all of this. Somehow, that has to be better... As to dealing with the emotional part, of such a happening.

  9. I was very glad to see your words today. Even though we have never met and I only know of you through your blog, I did think of you and your family and hoped that all was ok. I will keep you, your family and all the others that suffer the devastation from this storm in my thoughts and prayers. I am glad the Goddess kept you wrapped within in her safe arms. Many blessings

  11. Oh Mary...this is such good news to hear. I've been so worried about you even though I've been in constant prayer...it's the human in me.

I came over here early this morning but hadn't seen anything on my dashboard yet from you so I read a few blogs and logged off...but I couldn't relax until I came back in to find out if you were alright. I'm happy your son made it to your place alright too! Good that you all were together riding it out. It looks like everything is moving very fast to get all in order...so I hope for everyone's sake that it keeps on going that way.

Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs Sister!

  13. We kept our electricity, but lost the cable until last night.
    Was having withdrawals! ;0)
Feel ashamed to say that when so many lost so much more.
