Tis the Last Rose of Summer

While walking to the park I spotted her, one lone rose.  Her beauty caught my eye, causing me to stop and take notice.  She is alone now, all of her friends have given way to the weather.  She stands there, holding onto her loveliness for as long as she can.  She is a gentle reminder that Autumn will soon be here.

Tis the last rose of summer
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone:
No flower of her kindred,
No rose-bud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes,
Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one!
To pine on the stem;
Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go, sleep thou with them.
Thus kindly I scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed,
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow,
When friendships decay,
And from Love's shining circle
The gems drop away.
When true hearts lie wither'd,
And fond ones are flown,
Oh! who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?

Well, I'm off to Weight Watchers for my weigh in.  Have a good one.

  1. The last rose maybe, but what a beauty!

  2. The roses have been victims of the heat, but I think we will have some in September. The last rose of summer -Mother Nature saved the best for last.
