TGIF

There is a beautiful spirit breathing now
Its mellowed richness on the clustered trees,
And, from a beaker full of richest dyes,
Pouring new glory on the autumn woods,
And dipping in warm light the pillared clouds.
Morn on the mountain, like a summer bird,
Lifts up her purple wing, and in the vales
The gentle wind, a sweet and passionate wooer,
Kisses the blushing leaf, and stirs up life
Within the solemn woods of ash deep-crimsoned,
And silver beech, and maple yellow-leaved,
Where Autumn, like a faint old man, sits down
By the wayside a-weary.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

As we reach another Friday, I find myself sighing with relief. I really do love Fridays..Another week of work in the books.  Not much planned for this weekend.  Since it is not a cooking weekend, it will be one of those play-it-by-ear times.  I do know that for sure I will be heading out to the fruit stand on Saturday. Have some new veggie recipes I am hoping to try.  I find myself eating less and less meat nowadays.

I am thinking also of stopping at the 99 cent stores and see what kind of Halloween decor I can pick up.  I feel like a little kid at this time of year.  I guess it is because I have some great childhood memories of this day.
I find myself especially looking  forward to Halloween this year. This  will be the first Halloween in my new apartment, and I know there are a few children in the building so this year I'll be sure to buy a little candy.  (Halloween wasn't celebrated in my old neighborhood.)

As far as reading goes, I bought a Kindle book, "Halloween Spirits: 11 Tales for the Darkest Night" and am looking forward to curling up and reading a few spooky stories. What will really put me in the mood is some Halloween decorations so I guess I'd better put some holiday shopping  on my weekend agenda.

Well, that's my weekend in a nutshell.  What about  yours?

I hope you all have a lovely, peaceful, joyful weekend.

  1. Walking through your market and curling up with a good Halloween read sounds marvelous Mary! I don't know that I will decorate this year as I'm trying to go through everything, but I do leave out my little witches all year long so at least I have those on display. I do like to bring in dried things from outdoors so I'll make an arrangement with that.
Decorating your new apartment for Halloween will be fun for you! :) Have fun handing out the treats for your little ones...are you going to dress up? I wish I had Trick or Treaters where I live. I know I'll have them once I move. Lots of them, lol!
Have a spectacular weekend my wise and wonderful Sister/Friend!!!

  4. I moved into a new apartment a few month's ago and so it will also be my first time decoration for Halloween now where I live. I definitely miss living in a house where I could go to town on my decorations but I will just have to find the spirit of what is offered to me now. That Halloween book you're reading sounds wonderful. I have a few favored children's Halloween books that I like to bring out for this time of the year.
Have a great weekend and I hope you find some wonderful goodies.

  7. I love Halloween. This will be my first time here in the new condo, but I will go to my daughter's. She has 2 wee ones and it will be fun to watch them dress up. I imagine Grandma will end up giving out candy and letting mom and dad and little ones go Trick or Treating!

  8. Hi Mary.....sound like you have the perfect weekend planned...as for us, we are packing up the condo in Montana. Just taking a few things out of it as we plan on putting it on the market this year. Hopefully the R.E market has picked up a little here.

Anyway, saw a news flash about a huge storm in New York, the Queens area....hopefully that is not you and you are safe.

  9. I remember just how much you love Halloween. I do as well. I have memories of trick or treeting and always decorating, also I always threw Halloween parties.

I always dressed up for the children when they came door to door for candy. So likely in October I will change my page to Halloween just for you.

Maybe share some scary poems too.

    Enjoy your weekend Mary.

    hugs and love Sharon

  10. Sept. 9th

Thank you for commenting in my blog, and telling me that you are ok... After Sat. storms and tornado.

I heard the name of the section, in which it touched down. But do not know which section of Brooklyn, you live it.

    Glad no one was hurt!

    Gentle hugs,
