One Billion Rising, February 14, 2013

 Please spread far and wide.

The following was posted on I Am Woman but I thought it important enough to be posted here is well.  Valentine's Day this year will be about more than candy and flowers.  Indeed, this is a day for women...and men, to rise up and take a stand against the violence imposed on women the world over.  One in every three women on the planet will be raped or beaten during her lifetime.  It's time to end this violence.  That is why Eve Ensler wants YOU to join her campaign.

Events are planned throughout the world.  To find an event near you Go here.  Personally, I have signed up to attend a screening of the film "From Fear to Freedom Ending Violence Against Women". As a survivor, this day is so important to me that I plan a vacation day around it.

ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

  1. Ending violence toward women... A wonderful wish. And it would be super if such participation in such a Day, would do it.

But just like Days For Peace, or Day For The Earth, etc., I fear they do nothing permanent... Other than make the participants feel better, momentarily.

    Just my view...

And if my view pains you, you are perfectly free to not have it post. It is your blog! It is your set of comments! I mean it! If it hurts you in any way, do not post it!

  2. One of the women at my drumming circle last night was telling us about this event and where our local event is being held. A great idea and especially on Valentine's Day. Glad you're spreading the word too!

  5. Sounds like a wonderful way to bring attention to all of the violence at women and no better day. I sure hope you and hubby are alright, I seen the news this morning and all I can say is WOW! I haven't seen that much snow since we left Anchorage. It is always so pretty and very tranquil when it first falls, a very quiet still in the air.

Keep warm and feed hubby some of that homemade chicken noodle soup.
