Do You Believe in Magic?

If we believe in magic, we'll live a magical life.
If we believe our life is defined by narrow limits,
we've suddenly made those beliefs real.

--Anthony Robbins--

Do you believe in magic? I  surely do.  Magic is all around us. It has the power to shape things into loveliness and and meaning.  In fact, life itself is magical. Just think about the miracle of birth.  And, it  doesn't matter which way we may turn, we will always find ourselves surrounded by magic. Our ancestors knew this, but we seem to have forgotten, and as children, we
instinctively understood it, but life has a way of disrupting all that is magical. Adulthood creeps up on us, and society knocks the wind out of  our  magical beliefs; magic seems to threaten the very core of what we told to believe as rational adults.  How sad that is!

I see this loss all around me, especially living  here in the city where many have never experienced that magic to begin with.  I, at least, having grown up in the country, have had the chance to experience the awe and wonder of it all. I've lived close to nature and  have slept under the stars .  I have pranced about the fairy folk and have danced in the rain. I have glimpsed into the Otherworld so I know that it is there...just waiting to be found again.  The magic doesn't go away; it lives inside us all, just waiting for us to find it again.

The cycles of the Sun and Moon are a great place to begin because they are so  easy for us to understand as well as such an important part of our lives. The Moon moves in the same sacred pattern each month, the cycles of change, and with both the Sun and the Moon moving in the yin/yang rhythm, they constantly show us balance, and, by learning to honor the rhythmic cycle of balance, we learn, as our ancestors did, the existence of a time for activity and a time for rest, a time for growth and a time for dormancy, a time for harvest and time for preparing for the next growing cycle.

The world is full of wonders and miracles
but people take their little hands and
cover their eyes and see nothing.
--Israel Baal Shem--

In fact, Mother Nature is willing to share all of Her teachings to those us who honor and  respect Her, and if we are willing to hear what She has to say. Magic is an ancient tool that is powered by the desire to connect with the Universe through Nature.  It is also a tool that once can use to attain one's hopes, goals, and dreams...and while there may be many different forms of magic and magical practices,  they are all connected by similar basic principals. True magic comes from the Spirit.   It is not about the ingredients in a spell that helps you manifest your desires, but the intention behind the ritual, the thought that creates or manifests what you want in your life for the more you believe,  the greater the probability the magic you perform will become a reality.    Believe in yourself and what you are doing.

So yes, magic can be squeezed out of the ordinary life if we touch the awe of childhood by looking at the world as if it were new again. There is really one simple little rule to  remember when performing magic. You must realize and know that everything in this world, every one, every plant, every rock everything is connected to you.  We cannot escape ourselves; but we can grow in grace—if we have the will.

Look deep into nature,
and then you will understand everything better.

  8. It is sad when we stop seeing the magic, whether it's due to age or where we live, but living in the city myself, I can understand why it is much harder - the daily reminders are harder to witness. What we do become reminded of daily, however, is what happens when magic is not available in natural settings, when trees are cut down and the world is concrete and metal - how nature's magic, when absent, can effect humans, cause them to retreat inward and become blind to the magic in life and in other people.

    Great post!
