It's a New Day in a New Year

The Old Year has gone. Let the dead past bury its own dead.
The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time. All hail
the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!

Edward Payson Powell

I brought the New Year in with a night of quiet contemplation. Where does my life go from here? May seem strange to hear someone who is almost 65 asking that question, but, we never outgrow being faced with decisions. For those who have followed me for awhile, you've heard me mention time after time how much I would 'love' to retire, but financially at this point, it seems  out of the question....especially now with a new apartment and hubby out of work, and perhaps not going back due to health issues.  But, hey, after 50 years of working, I think it might be time.  My own health is not so good, either, but I am not going to get into that today.

My  'new' rocking chair arrived on the 31st, and I spent most of the night rocking in it.  Oh, was I in Seventh Heaven--my Kindle, the blinking lights of the tree, some of my favorite snacks - cheese and crackers, some fresh fruits cut into small pieces, some leftover Christmas chocolates truffles - and a Monk marathon on television...and later, after hubby went to bed, the silence of peace and solitude, reflecting on the past year’s events and planning a future for the year to come. I also took the time to make the first entry in my 2012 journal, my gratitude list, and read over last year's entries.

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going
to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity
and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

And now, with the festivities over, life continues, and it is back to work.  Time moves on, and  the older one gets, the faster it seems to fly by.  Before I know it, I will once again be sitting in what then will be my 'old rocker', watching the lights twinkle on the tree, watching some marathon on television......and perhaps, I will then be able to say, "It is time to retire."

  2. I 'hear' you Mary...loud and clear.
I can see you there in your new abode
in your rocking chair, being contemplative.
We were on the same page my Sister/Friend.
I hope you win the lottery or some other
lucky venue so that you can retire!!!
I hope you have a good week ahead...know that
I am thinking of you and sending out thoughts
    of peace and strength.

  3. Please take a picture of that lovely scene... I know you can't take a pic of yourself IN the rocking chair. But you could take it. I'd love to see it.

A lovely wish, to begin your New Year's Journal with. We must have dreams, wishes, points-to-move-toward, or whatever one wants to call them.
